CELIA ATKINS
who loves to paint

As you can see, my work is quite varied, ranging from heavily textured semi-abstract landscapes and seascapes to equine portraits, figurative work and abstracts. I love to experiment with paint and I really enjoy trying out different techniques, sometimes allowing the paint to 'do it's own thing'! Like most artists I tend to become totally absorbed in my painting and I am often to be found painting in the middle of the night having totally lost track of time!

I enjoy painting in a loose, flowing style and really admire current artists, Sheree Valentine-Daines and Andy James, for their vibrant impressionistic styles. I am completely captivated and overwhelmed by the work of Van Gogh, Toulouse Lautrec, Turner and Vermeer and the Impressionists, to name but a few.

Acrylic paint is a favorite medium of mine, and I was thrilled to be approached by world renowned art manufacturers, Winsor & Newton, to be asked to feature as an Acrylic Artist on their website. Have a look at www.acrylics.winsornewton.com/theartists where you can see videos and photographs of me at work in my studio, alongside video interview footage.

I grew up in Northampton, and was very lucky to study with Melissa Dring, the pastel portrait artist. This gave me a passion for working in pastel, which is the medium I generally use for my equine and animal portraits. I especially love horses and I am a member of the Royal Society of Equestrian Artists.

Painting is my great passion and I am delighted that my work is being so well received. I am looking forward to the future with great excitement and hope that you enjoy looking at my work and at all the wonderful pieces of locally created art and craft that are on display in ByLocal.
